Flexibility Isn’t a Requirement—It’s a Result!
“I’m not flexible enough for yoga,” well… You’d be surprised how many people use this very reason to avoid yoga, thinking that they need to touch their toes or twist like a pretzel before stepping onto a mat. Here’s the real scoop, though: not being flexible is the perfect reason to start yoga!

Why Flexibility Doesn’t Matter – And Why It Will Come with Time
The truth is, yoga is here to help you become more flexible, stronger, and more comfortable in your own body. Most people, myself included, don’t start out with flexibility. In fact, the magic of yoga is that it meets you exactly where you are, whether you’re bending an inch or doing a full forward fold. It’s all about taking things one breath, one movement, and one day at a time.
Here’s something to remember: Yoga isn’t about what you can or can’t do today—it’s about how much you’re willing to explore and grow over time. Flexibility will come naturally with consistent practice, and you’ll probably be amazed at the progress you make without even realizing it!
Real Talk: Some of the Most Common (and Funny) Excuses I Hear
I get it—starting yoga can feel intimidating, especially with all those bendy poses floating around on Instagram. But I promise, no one’s here to judge how far you can stretch! Here are some of the most common (and honestly, pretty funny) excuses I hear all the time:
“I can’t even touch my toes!” (Spoiler: neither could most of us when we started.)
“I’m not flexible enough for the ‘real’ poses!” (The ‘real’ pose is whatever you’re doing, however it looks!)
“I’ll embarrass myself in class!” (We all start somewhere, and yoga is one of the most accepting communities out there!)
Here’s What Really Happens When You Start Practicing Yoga
Many people have told me, “I’m not flexible enough for yoga,” but as soon as they try it, they realize something amazing. Yoga meets you where you are, and as you practice, you’ll discover that:
Your body is capable of more than you think: Little by little, you’ll notice small changes. One day, you might go a little deeper into a stretch than before, and that progress feels so rewarding.
Flexibility is a gradual process: You don’t have to be able to touch your toes to do yoga. Flexibility comes with time and practice—just showing up regularly is all you need.
It’s not a competition: There’s no “perfect” way to do yoga. Each body is different, and that’s what makes yoga beautiful. You’re encouraged to go at your own pace, doing what feels right for you.
Ready to Start? Give It a Try?
So here’s my invitation: start where you are, no matter what that looks like. Yoga isn’t about perfection or flexibility—it’s about showing up, breathing, and seeing where the journey takes you. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it and how quickly the excuses melt away once you start!
